The Great Prayer for Peace and Happiness for All Beings
The Great Prayer for Peace and Happiness for All Beings will be held at and offered by the Geshes of Drepung Gomang Center for Engaging Compassion from November 18, 2016 to April 2017. This group of prayers has been requested and sponsored by DGCEC’s Advisory Board member and generous sponsor, Owsley Brown III.
These prayers are offered for
- the benefit and success of all people in the Compassionate City of Louisville and its great leader, Mayor Greg Fischer, for the practitioners of interfaith traditions, for the followers of the path of non-violence, for the followers of loving-kindness and compassion, for community service members, and for those dedicated to promoting the basic human value of goodness.
- especially, to purify all obstructions in accomplishing all virtuous deeds for the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the 2017 Festival of Faiths, organized by the Center for Interfaith Relations, DGCEC, and ICCC, and chaired by our sponsor Owsley Brown. The prayers being performed during this duration include the following:
- The Great Fulfillment-Petition of Dharma Protectors: The fulfillment-petition and invocation prayers are offered to Mahakala, the main dharma protector deity of Drepung Gomang Monastery, and Palden Lhamo. An invocation prayer of Dorjee Youdon ma will be performed as well.
- The great feast offering of Padmasambhava.
- The great feast offering of Lama Tsongkhapa.
- An extensive offering prayer of Green Tara.
- The great appreciation prayer of Buddha of Compassion (Avaloketeshvara).
- Long life prayer of His Holiness the Dalai Lama through ritual practice of Long-life Buddha (Amitayus).
- Supplementary prayers of recited mantras of Buddha Shakyamuni, Buddha of Compassion (Avaloketeshvara), Medicine Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava.
Finally we would like to conclude with a fervent request prayer that by the blessings of Buddhas, noble beings (Bodhisattvas), meditational deities and by the power of virtuous deeds that we have performed, may there be peace on our planet, and specifically within the Compassionate City of Louisville, may people within the city always enjoy peace, be never be separated from the sacred practices of non-harm, be forever abiding with loving-kindness and compassion, and may they spontaneously fulfill their wishes with healthy and long lives!
May the supreme compassionate mind
That has not arisen, arise and grow,
And may that which has arisen not diminish, But increase more and more!
